At Georgia Orthodontics & Children’s Dentistry, our team is experienced in providing gentle, caring pediatric dental care for our young patients. However, there are some children that may still be uneasy about having a dental procedure performed. Nitrous oxide, also referred to as “laughing gas”, is a safe option to relax your child to help them feel at ease during the office visit. It can make the dental procedure less stressful for them by relaxing their mind and body while our team does their job maintaining their dental health.
Ease Fear and Relax at the Dentist
Nitrous oxide is a mild sedative that is breathed in through the nose through a small nasal mask. The gas is a combination of oxygen and nitrous oxide that calms patients without putting them to sleep. With nitrous oxide, patients are fully aware of what is going on and can respond to and ask questions. Most patients feel a warm sense of well-being and relaxation while breathing in the gas, which helps ease their fear during the dental procedure. Once the dental visit is over, a few breaths of normal air removes the nitrous oxide from the body and the effects immediately dissipate.
For many dental patients young and old, nitrous oxide can reduce any tension or stress they may feel when at the dentist. It can help them relax so that the procedure can be finished quickly and accurately without interruption. If you or your child need dental care, yet have anxiety about the visiting the dentist, nitrous oxide is an option to make the experience more enjoyable.
Nitrous oxide is one of the many safe options and techniques we use at Georgia Orthodontics & Children’s Dentistry to ensure all our patients have a positive dental visit.
